The Bushdance.

On Friday 21st September we had a Bushdance. We had fun dancing to the music until a rock and roll band called 'Slap Happy' appeared out of nowhere and made us jump to there music!!!We had a lovely time with our families and friends at the bush dance of 2007. Mummies come to J23

In August we learnt lots about Ancient Egypt at our first ever Enrichment Day. Children worked in groups for Drama, English, Science, Art and Maths and discovered interesting information on Egypt. As this was our first Enrichment Day, it was a great success.

Congratulations to our Sports Captains

Recently we listened to speeches from some of our year 4 students who wanted to become House Sports Captain. After listening to the speeches the children from years 1 to 4 voted.Our House Captains for our upcoming Sports Fun Day are: Red-Kymberly and Abi, Blue-Bryce and Kelsey, Green-Myen and Jacques, Gold-M.D and Camille. Congratulations to these children!

Book Character Parade

As part of our Education Week celebrations we had a book parade where people dressed up as a character from a book. We had Dr Who, Harry Potter, Darth Vader, Matilda and lots more interesting characters visit our school for the day. If you had to dress up as a book character, who would you go as?

Max the Scientist

Today Max helped some children who were working with gears. Together they made a wonderful demonstration of how gears work.

Max Has Lunch With Us

Today Max was feeling a bit hungry and so two beautiful children from 2N offered to share their lunch with Max. He really liked his vegemite sandwich! Max would like to know what your favourite lunch is.

Max the Monkey Arrives

Max the Monkey has arrived @ J23 to begin Term 3 with us. Our first few weeks of school are going to be exciting and very busy. We hope that Max can keep up with us.

Sports Update

Netball

Girls get excited about netball gala day!

Girls in Years 3 and 4 had the opportunity try out for the netball team. The netball team will represent the school at the local netball gala day. The members of the team are Jenna, Olivia, Taylor (both of them), Jessica, Guilia, Erin, Camille, Kymberly, Bethany, Alana, Jaime, Abbey, Veronica and Elissa. Mrs H and Miss D will be coaching the hopefully victorious teams.

Rugby League

Footy Fever @ J23

Years 3 and 4 boys had fun representing the school at the local rugby league shield cup. Our team were fit and firing when they got to the field. They scored some memorable tries, but unfortunately ended with some forgettable losses.

Our School

Welcome to our school profile. At J23 we believe that working hard is great and we would enjoy giving you an introduction to our school.

Our school was named after Pope John XXIII and although we started off very small, we are growing every year. It is a member of a larger Catholic Learning Community.

Our motto is “Nurturing Hope for the Future”. We are proud of this motto and would like our school to continue to grow.

In our school environment we “Never take the happiness away from anyone else” and “we speak to please and not to tease.”

All about our choir

The choir was formed in 2005, and has been very busy singing their songs and entering competitions. Some of the songs they have been singing include The Ghost of Tom, Lollipop, Scooby Doo, Brumby Jack, and Little Turtle. They sang their favourite song, Lollipop at the Eisteddfod and came third. They have been spending every Monday lunch time warming up and learning new songs with their choir teacher Miss DBC. They have had a lot of singing experiences, including singing at the local shopping centre and other competitions. The Choir has practiced for many years and has grown in size over this time.

Our Book Reviews

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day is a book about a little boy who is grumpy because he woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Its author is Judith Viorst and it is illustrated by Ray Cruz. We recommend this book for children because it has good illustrations and children can learn the lesson that they don’t always have to get what they want.

A book called Fairytale News is about what the fairytale characters are doing today. It also shows what fairytale land looks likes and you can read fairytales but they are funnier than real fairytales.

The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs is the wolf’s point of view of the traditional Three Little Pigs story. A funny part of the story was when the wolf thought he was asking his neighbours for some sugar for his granny’s cake but when he went to their house he felt a sneeze coming on. We recommend this book for children who like a different version of the story of the 3 Little Pigs.

The Mark of the Wagarl is about a boy called Baardi and aboriginal dreamtime. This is a great book about different cultures and has fantastic illustrations by Janice Lyndon and is written by Lorna Little.

My favourite book was '19 Girls and Me'. I really enjoyed this book about a boy called 'John' who was the only boy with 19 girls in his class at school. His brother teases him that the girls would turn him into a 'sissy', but John said he would turn the girls into 'Tomboys'. I liked the many funny things that the author 'Darcy Pattison' wrote about John. I would like to see other children enjoy this book as much as I did. (Kanesha)
